Support Entrepreneurs with Disabilities in Tanzania

In Tanzania there are very few resources for people with disabilities. Many of the disabled people spend their day shut in at home, with almost no interaction or opportunity to contribute to their communities of which most of them turn into bagging on the streets. To address this ISAF organization started a community sensitization company and advocacy against discrimination and exploitation for people with disabilities, by engaging them into various productive activities so as to give them opportunities to realize their potentiality.

ISAF Organization is non-Government organization registered in Tanzania since 2009 with registration number 00NGO/00003120 dealing with Disadvantaged people and Key Vulnerable Population.

Our campaign began in the city of Dar es salaam, starting with one group which attracted more other people with disabilities and currently we have five groups of 30 people for each group. We created groups of people with different disabilities s that they can support each other and create sense of love for each other. These groups engage in shoe making, clothes design and tailoring, soap making and natural wellness products.

ISAF Organization helps these groups through empowering them with entrepreneurial and marketable skills in order to increase independence, economic potential and sense of dignity and self-worthiness for people with disabilities. Also ISAF needs to expand its operations to reach more people with disability; hence we need support of finance to cover the costs and materials for us to reach more people.

OUR HISTORY ON DISABILITY

In the past several of our Entrepreneurs with disabilities used to spent every day alone and shut away in home wasting their incredible potential and falling into depression, drugs addiction, and some of them attempted to commit suicide. ISAF therefore, started with one group looking to find the best way of making them productive and happier. We brought them together in one group and we asked them what activity they can do better and still enjoy their work, their choice was “shoe Making”. So we helped them with the tools and raw materials and later on with marketing of their products. This was new chapter to their lives, and with that we were motivated and we created more four groups which deals with shoe making, soap making, clothes designing and tailoring and natural wellness products. We need to raise more money in order to expand the project and include more people with disabilities.

PURPOSE AND VISION

ISAF plans the creation of special training and empowerment programs for people with disabilities to become self-reliance, productive and useful to themselves and the community at large. The special skill training is designed to mobilize the selected groups of people with disabilities. Our ultimate goal is to be a leading non-government organization committed to improve quality of life of disabled and key vulnerable groups through health, business and financial training programs so as to achieve economic independency to these special groups.
