Campaign Story
I think most people would describe Sugar as a very strong, optimistic woman. In fact, if you see her now, you'd still see a very normal and healthy person. And that's because she chooses to fight everyday.
Sugar is only 31 years old. She is a doting wife, and mother of 2 beautiful boys. A loving daughter, sister, friend...
In 2013, her battle with the Big C has started when she was diagnosed of Phyllodes Sarcoma (a rare type of breast CA). At that time, she was one of the youngest breast CA patients at the Medical City. But she faced it head on and without any doubt had subjected herself to a radical breast mastectomy. But unfortunately, it didn't stop there. The enlarged lymph node in her underarm also tested positive for Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. So she received 8 cycles of chemotherapy and some sessions of radiation to address it. And in God's grace, she overcame it, and was cleared on December of same year.
But recently, her skies once again turned gray, when a recurrence was confirmed. It actually took a lot of time to know what exactly it was. They had to go back and forth in different hospitals, consult numerous specialists, subject herself to endless biopsies, blood transfusion, ct/pet scans, medical tests and procedures... just to figure it out. At first, it masked itself as a suspicious node in her right lung, a mass in her nasopharynx, also a chronic type of leukemia where she had to take very expensive oral medications for months, just to name a few.
Until very recently, it was finally confirmed that her Lymphoma has recurred, and that it has already spead to her bone marrow, liver, and colon. Thus, the confusing findings before. Doctors also still have varying opinions on whether it is Stage 3 or 4, but one thing for sure, it is a lot more aggressive than what she had in 2013. She's also already experiencing extreme pain due to the tumors found in her stomach area.
But she has defeated it once, so she is more determined than ever to knock it down once more. However, her battle wouldn't be so smooth, as she needs to overcome another 8 cycles of chemotherapy, and the hefty medical bills which would come with it. 1 cycle of her prescribed chemotherapy protocol would cost around Php 200k ($3,900), already net of her PWD and manufacturer discount (application is still in process with Roche, but we're claiming that we'll get the max of 40% discount).
With the lengthy process they had went through, her family have already exhausted their financial resources, including her medical insurance. So we are knocking on your hearts, and humbly asking for any financial support you could offer to Sugar and her family. Any amount that comes from the heart will be greatly appreciated by Sugar and Karlo.
Any other kind of support especially your prayers are also most welcome. Help us spread the word and let us all choose to #FightwithSugar
Thank you and God bless everyone!
