Starehe Boys' Centre and School in Nairobi, Kenya was founded in 1959 by the late Dr. Geoffrey W. Griffin, the late Mr. Geoffrey Geturo and the late Mr. Joseph Gikubu and has since then provided high quality, holistic education to over 15,000 underprivileged boys. Unfortunately, due to economic pressure, the school is struggling to remain open.
Natulenge Juu (Aim High)
As part of the 60 year anniversary celebrations, a group of Starehe alumni under the Old Starehian Society has planned an expedition to summit Mount Kenya to celebrate the school as well as raise money to ensure that the school keeps doing the incredible work it does.
As former students of Starehe and adventure enthusiasts, we could not resist the challenge to help raise funds while pushing ourselves to the limit. The challenge entails a series of preparatory hikes before finally taking on Mount Kenya in July... and we intended to stand with Starehe every step of the way!
March: Mt. Longonot (Altitude 2,776m) - 30/3/2019 *Done!
April: Kijabe Hill (Altitude 2,500m)- 27/4/2019 *Done!
May: Mt. Kenya acclimatization walk:- Kamweti route- 18/5/2019 *Done!
June: Elephant Hill (Altitude 3,906m)- 1/6/2019
July - Mt. Kenya (Altitude 5,282m)
Your role? Well, it's simple...apart from cheering us on, the school desperately needs any amount of money you can spare. Our target is to raise $1,500 (or more) by July 1st 2019 ALL of which will go into the school's endowment fund that will ensure there is a place in the school for a deserving young boy FOREVER!
