Me and my husband would like to start an ngo and build a school to teach the children in our hometown, outside Banlung - Ratanakiri Province in north-east Cambodia. I studied English and Khmer at Pannasastra University in Phnom Penh for 2 years, and my husband has worked in hotels and on integrated pepper farms in Kampot Province. He is good at Math, English and also has computer skills. We do the lessons on my parents house, we came back here for the birth of our first child. We teach to around 20 children in our village, with a few coming from the next hometown too. Everybody brings a piece of fruit or vegetable that we cook and everybody eats at the end of the lesson. We would like to raise money to buy a small patch of land in our hometown and build a school room with small kitchen and toilet. We are having a stuggle with space and chairs and tables! And the weather can hold us back sometimes too as we are teaching outdoors.. With the money we would also buy classroom equipment, books and office supplies, and also to register ourselves as an ngo. We would like to keep the lessons free for students, and keep the food donation for the meal at the end of the lesson. Most people in our village are finding money more difficult now the borders are closed. My husband has worked on integrated farms before, and wants to help the children understand how this works. Most of the students are from farming families, and will probably take over their families business, and this would really help them make the most of it. We would also like to sell food and snacks that we can make from the produce on the land. This would help pay for the electricity, gas, cleaning, and we could keep doing the lessons free of charge. We would also like to teach Art, Music, Chinese and Environmental studies, between me, my husband and my sister we have this covered!
Please feel free to message me if you have any suggestions or know anybody who might be able to help us in any other way like donating old school or office equipment.
