Sophia Goes to Ghana

I'm trying to help others make a difference in the world. I want to make a trip down to Ghana to help out the children and poor families struggling. All my life, nothing was ever just handed to me. My parents taught me to be independent and even though we didn't have all the money in the world, they would tell me to look at the little things in life that would make me happy. When I was 7 years old, I was introduced to The Salvation Army. It started off with attending vacation Bible school but as time grew my parents gave my siblings and I chance to attend other programs at The Salvation Army. There was Sunday church, Girl Guards and Youth Group. It kept us busy and we became extremely involved that we decided to join the summer camp they had in Sharon, MA. Working at a summer camp, really has helped me open myself up to care for others. This was when I realized that I felt happy because I wanted to help others. Not only the camp was filled with children who wants to learn the word of God, they wanted someone to look up to. Even though I worked as a 4th cook or laundress, my connection with some of the campers were very special to me. Of all things, I decided to take a big step in trying to be more of a helping and caring person. I decided that going to Africa would help me grow more and understand more about how others have it harder in life than me. I want to learn how to be there for others and I want to expand my knowledge of trying to make a difference.
