I’M BATTLING KIDNEY DISEASE.

I am Justine Manlapig, 20 years old. I was diagnosed of Stage 4 Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). After being admitted to the hospital last November, I learned that both my kidneys are damaged, and my Nephrologist recommended kidney transplant. Because of this, I am in need of a kidney donor who will be willing to undergo this life-extending procedure for me. However, aside from the growing prescription and hospital bills, the operation amounts to approximately Php1.5 million. My family is living from paycheck to paycheck, hence, we won’t be able to afford the cost.

Except for my kidneys, I am in good health. I've been very active in my community as Kagawad of Sangguniang Kabataan of Barangay Pinagkaisahan. Given a chance to live longer, I’d continue to serve my community and make way for a better future by promoting sports and livelihood skills to the unschooled and less fortunate youth.

Getting regular dialysis will aid my kidneys in doing their job, but a transplant would offer me a greater chance for an improved and longer life. Apparently, some people are anxious and hesitant about the surgery and what living with one kidney will mean for them. Here’s some basic information about kidney donation:

• One kidney can take care of the job that both kidneys do, thus, donating won’t affect your lifespan.

• Most donor surgery is done laparoscopically, meaning, through tiny incisions.

• The recuperation period is usually fairly quick, generally two weeks.

If you or anyone you know might be willing to be tested as a potential donor, please reach out to us. I realized that what I'm asking is an incredibly generous act, thus I will forever be grateful for the chance to live a longer and healthier life.

• Age Group: Not more than 30yrs old
