School Building Capital Campaigns for Orphanage in South Sudan

Background Information

Since South Sudan is a very young state, accurate orphan statistics do not yet exist. However, both Sudan and South Sudan taken together are home to around 2 million orphaned children. The vast majority of them have been orphaned because of extreme poverty, ethnic conflict and HIV/AIDS. A growing crisis which is as of yet unaddressed by any of the main actors in South Sudan (both humanitarian and government), is that this generation is growing up without any support network or formal education and will result in a large sector of the population without the life-skills necessary to provide a fundamental living for themselves.

The civil war in South Sudan has taken a heavy toll on children. South Sudanese children have suffered from violence, displacement, lack of schooling, and forced recruitment into the army has taken a toll. Many orphan children trapped in the limbo of displaced camps within the country for several years where the future looks bleak. More than 2 million South Sudanese children are at risk of dying from hunger and curable communicable diseases. Due to the previous civil war, many South Sudanese children need psychological assistance. Many of these children have been forcibly made orphans and have seen shocking brutality shootings and machete killings, gang rapes and sexual torture, assaults, and village burnings. The children in South Sudan, though formidable in their resilience, have now experienced war, witnessed violence, and have lost both parents. The way in which these childhoods have been interrupted shall have long-term negative consequences on their emotional, cognitive, and social development. Therefore, we invite you to join the ministry of supporting and raising these vulnerable orphans. As such, our collective responsibility is to change our planet for a better future for our kids. As these children have no schools, no good healthcare facilities, no food, no homes and no future. This is why ‘Green Town Orphan Foundation’ is seeking all kind of support to assist these children and give them opportunities to be educated and to grow up to become productive citizens in their adopted communities. With assistance and financial support disadvantaged children may one day reach their full potential which could not otherwise be afforded.
