Dear Friends and Comrades,
This is my 3rd BORNEO APPEAL. The work continues. I am literally ‘commuting’ from the Middle East, Latin America and Japan to this far-away, and thoroughly devastated island.
I come there regularly, filming and writing about total devastation which is taking place mostly in the Indonesian part of Borneo, known as Kalimantan.
The third largest island on earth (after Greenland and Papua) is almost entirely stripped of its original tropical forest. Native people are being robbed of everything by Indonesian ‘elites’ and multi-national companies. So-called ‘transmigration’ made them become minority on their own island. In Kalimantan, there is no genocide, as in West Papua, but the situation is desperate. The world is losing its lungs. Biodiversity has been destroyed. Rivers are poisoned by mercury, forests burned, cut down and converted to palm oil plantations. Mountains are flattened by mining. The majority of people lives in absolute misery, but is not even aware of its conditions.
Mass media in the West is covering up this tragedy. Indonesian media never addresses the topic. We are on our own.
Please support our film and book projects addressing this disaster.
