Our little warrior Jasian Casey Galit Concepcion (born on April 24, 2018) is fighting against Pertussis Pneumonia. Two weeks after she was born, she was rushed to a primary hospital due to unusual cough which makes it hard for her to breathe. At first, her attending doctors advised it to be just a normal cough, and so she was discharged and prescribed with some antibiotics. However, despite the antibiotics, her coughing still persisted and even worsened to the point that her frail body turned purplish black. She was rushed back to the primary hospital and was initially diagnosed with Pertussis that later developed to Pertussis Pneumonia.

Pertussis, also known as whooping cough, is a condition that makes the patient hard to breathe; even worse when babies suffer form this that they may stop breathing temporarily. The best way to prevent Pertussis is thru vaccination. In this case, however, the Baby Casey already had Pertussis before she got vaccinated . The treatment is long and costly, it can take about 3 months or more for persistent cases.

Baby Casey has already been transferred to various hospitals in search for better medical assistance, coupled with the family’s financial instability. As of the moment, she is at the ward section ofUST Hospital,their 4th hospital, where she is being provided intensive care. By the end of the week, their total hospital bill will already be PHP300,000.00 considering that Baby Casey has stayed in the ICU for 30 days. Her parents, who have baby Casey’s best interest at heart despite the challenges, need to raise at least PHP500,000.00 to be able to sustain their little angel’s needs. Her family is also seeking assistance from PCSO and other government and non-government organizations that can be of help.

This little angel is truly a fighter! She already lost her first life while she was in the one of the previous hospitals she was confined in. The doctors already told her mother that she was gone…but little Casey did not easily give up. She was revived after 70 seconds!
