With my team I run a ranch in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic (Rancho Salvaje/Lorilar).

Due to the coronavirus we were forced to close the ranch and tourism has come to a complete stand still therefore we have no income at all to feed and take care of our horses. The government does not supply any help and we don`t know how long it is going to take before we are back in business and when tourist will be allowed to travel and visit this beautifull country again. As you can see form the pictures i added, the consequences for the horses are devastating and heartbreaking. They are in urgent need of food and medical attention. The cheapest way to feed them is to hire finca's ( grassfields) but there are not many available and landowners prefer to rent out their land to cattlefarmers because for them cows are a better source of income due to the milk and meat they supply. We have stables where we can keep many the horses but not all of them (we have 50 horses) and we then need to buy fodder and hay which are both in short supply and expensive. In both cases (finca and stables) we also need to supply water and medication (against parasites, colic, vitamins, ect..) I also can 't forget my team, they are all hardworking, honest people with a big heart for the horses . I have to let some of them go because i cannot afford to pay their wages which breaks my heart because they also have families to feed. Luckily there is a lot of solidarity and people get help from family and friends so they will pull thrue. We can only hope and pray this crisis doesn't last too long. We are asking help for the horses because they depend on us for food and care.

Please help us save our horses!!
