Campaign Story
My name is Tamara and I'm raising money so I can flee my home country, Egypt. Egypt is one of the very hostile countries towards the LGBTQ+ community and increasingly condemns homosexuality. I come from a very conservative family and I'm trying to escape an abusive home. I've been living my entire life in the dark, unable to be myself. I'm scared they would find out about me and force me into marriage, or report me to the authorities, where I'll get sexually abused, raped or killed.
LGBTQ+ individuals in Egypt face legal challenges not experienced by non-LGBTQ+ residents. You can google: "LGBTQ in Egypt" and you'll find a lot of press articles on the issue. Here's an article by the Human Rights Watch released in March 20, 2020: https://www.hrw.org/news/2020/03/20/egypts-denial-sexual-orientation-and-gender-identity
I need your help to get to a safer place. Your donation, regardless of the amount, would make a significant difference.
Thank you. x
