Campaign Story
A very heartwarming day every one,
I am Andrea Pera, aunt of Ardleigh Claire C. Pera, an angel brought to our family last Feb 7, 2019. She's the 1st born of my brother and his partner. On her 1st week of life, baby Clae has been an active newborn, but last Feb 16, 2019, on her 9th day and 1st well baby check-up, her pediatrician noticed that her lips and face were turning black while crying. She was then referred to a Pediatric Cardiologist. 2d-echo was done and revealed a condition that shocked us all. Our little angel was diagnosed to have a rare congenital heart disease called Transposition of Great Arteries with Ventricular Septal Defect. As explained by her doctors, the large vessels that carry blood from her heart to her lungs and to her body, are improperly connected. As a result, her body is receiving oxygen-poor blood, hence bluish discoloration. The Ventricular Septal Defect, simply known as a hole in between the main chambers of the heart, allows blood from one side to mix with blood from another, creating "purple" blood with an oxygen level somewhere in between oxygen-rich and oxygen-poor. According to research, even with an additional defect present that allows mixing, babies with transposition of the great arteries will not have enough oxygen in the bloodstream to meet the body's demands for long. It is a situation that is fatal if not immediately treated. Within the first 1 to 2 weeks of age, it is advisable that transposition of the great arteries be surgically repaired.
Currently, baby Clae is admitted at Philippine Heart Center and is scheduled for surgery this coming Thursday, February 21, 2019. We`re asked to prepare 800,000 to 1million in Philippine Peso (16,000-20,000 USD) for the total hospital bill.
Our family is humbly asking through your kindest heart for assistance in giving our little angel a longer, healthier, and happier life.
