I am going to work with a local NGO (Jatan Sansthan) in a village in rural Rajasthan contributing to various development projects (my personal favorite: Education) . Volunteers in the past have worked on projects such as but not limited to :
- Assisting local organisation in the process of setting up night schools (as children take the goats and sheep for grazing in the morning) by conducting action research on access to education for the children in the local communities.
- Developing and running modules for different age groups in the rural community where access to quality education is limited.
- Developing and facilitating peer education modules to help build awareness around gender and reproductive and child health.
I am raising money to show my commitment for the Pravah ICS program. The money raised will solely be utilized towards my expenses within the program.
I will be living with a local host family in the village for 3 months. This is the closest I will be to village life and I am going to make full use of this opportunity to understand the uniqueness of Indian culture and the problems that villagers face in their daily life.
By funding me, you show your commitment towards the development of youth and you automatically become advocates of social change.
IMPORTANT: This program is not about rich people "helping" the poor nor is it an extended 3 month holiday. I personally see that I have much to gain from the local people as they have from me. Volunteers in the past have done beautiful work within the community. This is an example of an initiative undertaken by volunteers in the 2016 batch.
Note : Volunteers have a target of 5000 rupees for this round. All additional money will go towards development activities in the village.
