Rowena’s Victory Royale against ‘The Big C’

Being greeted by the surgeon after a loved one's successful surgery, witnessing a patient's first few steps after recovering from trauma, and even hearing your unborn child's heartbeat for the first time, are some of the bright and memorable moments shared in the Doctor's office. Unfortunately for us, it's the place where our worst fears were realized.

October 11, 2021, at 2:00 PM in the University of Sto. Tomas Hospital, we were informed of the results of our Mama-- ROWENA MARIANO TEODORO's biopsy: POSITIVE FOR MALIGNANT CELLS CONSISTENT WITH METASTATIC CARCINOMA. A statement powerful enough to send a full-grown man in tears and drop to his knees.

A series of tests were ordered to confirm the primary malignancy, and they were able to narrow it down to the source: The LEFT BREAST.

According to the Philippine Statistics of Authority and the Department of Health, 3 in every 100 Filipina women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime, given the statistics we had always been cautious and proactive in taking care of our physical well-being (clean diet, exercise), but not never in this lifetime would we have thought we would soon fight the Big C -- not to Mama Rowena, especially.

We are, however, determined to see this battle through. Our funds and savings are rapidly depleting and our HMO has been maxed out.
