Hi, My name is Ronnie Lim from Cebu, Philippines

Deaf Disaster Assistance Team-DRR (DDAT-DRR) is a dedicated team committed to educating Deaf Communities on emergency preparedness and advocating for equal access to emergency information in the Philippines. Since this program is very new, there is a need to seek resources externally to learn what best practices are being used within this capacity, specifically in serving the Deaf Community. DDAT-DRR has been invited to participate in two different events that will greatly benefit the team to learn and network with other professionals in the following capacities: service providers, interpreters, and emergency preparedness officers.

The first event that is fitting for DDAT-DRR to attend is the World Federation of the Deaf Regional Secretariat for Asia (WFD-RSA) Conference that will take place in Singapore from October 13-16, 2015. This conference will focus on promoting the human rights of deaf people and full, quality and equal access to all spheres of life, including self-determination, sign language, education, employment and community life in the Asian region.

The second event is a Volunteer Visitor Exchange Program (aka VOLVIS) by the U.S. Embassy in Manila, which provides opportunities for up to eight (8) participants to meet and confer with their professional counterparts throughout the U.S. under a “thematic program” as a way to enhance their professional development skills. The theme, “Deaf Advocacy and Services”, will take DDAT-DRR on a 10 days program between late October to November 2016 visiting different community organizations, schools, higher education institutions, and sign language interpreter training programs for Deaf Communities in the U.S.

In order for DDAT-DRR to send two representatives to participate in these events, they need to fundraise for their own airfares and accommodations. Please help make this possible for the team to attend both events by donating to their GoFundMe page. Any amount is greatly appreciated.
