As many of you know, last year I went to Oradea, Romania with a team from Christ Community Church for one week! We joined with an awesome organization called Belief in Motion (www.beliefinmotion.org) to serve in Roma (gypsy) villages, work in the area orphanage, go on home visits to Romanian shut-ins, and minister to children in a transition home called the Minor Center.
As with many mission trip experiences, I found God working in me as much (if not more) than he was working through me. Since that trip, it has been on my heart to do more and use the talents I have been blessed with to make more of an impact in Romania. This summer, I will be traveling back for 4-5 weeks to help develop a PreK/Kindergarten curriculum for the new school there (Sintelec Christian Academy), help with an after-school program, and even possibly train teachers on hands-on approaches to learning. In addition, I will continue to go to the Minor Center to work with troubled teens.
I have been saving for this trip and have been determined to pay my way. However, there is a great opportunity for giving if you are able and willing. If I raise additional funds, I will be able to have a translator with me in order to reduce the language barrier while teaching. I will be able to conduct 'Make-It, Take-It' type sessions where I teach parents or other teachers a skill, we make the things needed for the activity, and I leave it all with them to use. I will be able to purchase additional materials and manipulatives to leave in Romania at Sintelec Christian Academy (where funds and materials are extremely limited). In addition, I will be able to take games and activities to the Minor Center, where teens are often left with nothing.
I was amazed at how little these people have and even more amazed at how little it took from me to have an impact on their lives. I hope that you will ask me about Belief in Motion and the work that is happening in Romania! Ceau!
