Road to Kidney Transplant

I'm Abraham Cera. Twenty-four years old. Diagnosed with chronic kidney disease. And I refuse to die.

Yup! That's basically the summary of my campaign. Last April, 2017, I was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Stage 5 secondary to Chronic Glomerulonephritis. In other words, kidney failure. I am one of the few young adults who suffer from this disease because of my very unhealthy lifestyle before. Fatty foods. Salty foods. Junk foods. And other unhealthy stuff.

Due to this disease, I am undergoing hemodialysis twice a week, every week, for life. Or until kidney transplant. Or worse, death, which I wouldn't want to happen. So kidney transplant is the plan.

Together with my older sister and my younger brother (my possible donor), I went to Quezon City, Manila to visit the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI), where I will undergo my transplant (with God's grace).

Before transplant, a series of laboratory tests are needed. These tests are super expensive that we need to avail discounts from the medical social service division at NKTI. Honestly, we have no idea yet on the total amount/expenses we will be needing for the whole kidney transplant journey; however, attached on this campaign is the cost esrimate given to us by the said hospital. It is not even included there yet the anti-rejection medications that I will be taking after the operation. One thing is for sure- THIS IS IS SO EXPENSIVE. But life is life.

Also, Philhealth only gives assistance to only 90 dialysis sessions per year. It is not even enough for the whole year. Without Philhealth, we will be paying 3,000-5,000 Philippine pesos every session. And my 90th dialysis would be on November 24, 2018. As such, the pressure to save money for my transplant is too stressful. But life is life and I refuse to die.

With this, I am knocking on your generous hearts. Help me have a new chance in life. Help me build my own road to kidney transplant. Help me raise funds.
