Rebuilding after Dorian

After spending all my savings and every paycheck for the past 17 months, I finally got to move into a house of my own. Life seemed to be going somewhere, and then Dorian slammed my island, 185mph winds, 220mph gusts, tidal waves and 22ft plus ocean surges, tornadoes touching down, 4 days of rain, and my island looks like a mulching machine has walked over it. My brand new home flooded, the two ends of the roof took damage leading to further flooding, and then eventually everything was destroyed. Imagine spending hours holding your furbabies out of water, screaming out to God to please keep your roof on just a little bit longer. Imagine being afraid for your life hour after hour. Hearing tornadoes around you, watching everything you own, everything you have worked towards be taken away. Imagine having nothing dry to wear, no where dry to lay down at night. Losing multiple family members to Dorian. Imagine a feeling of darkness, of hopelessness that just lingers. Of realizing you have spent all your savings on your house and now without any insurance, you have no roof over your head and no way to replace it. To know that without the help of the kind hearted people in the world, you will never know what it is like to have a home ever again. Jobs are gone, homes are gone, my island is destroyed and everyone I know is in the same situation. I ask that if you are reading this and you can help, no matter the amount please consider doing so. It is truly a feeling of hopelessness, a feeling of being lost, misplaced from everything familiar, to lose everything you have ever known and treasured.
