Raising funds for SUFO’s Johnson Memorial Health Center

Remembering Johnson! On Tuesday, July 8, 2014, the I and my staff at Summit Foundation woke to a shock news that our fellow staff, the late Johnson Odongpiny, has collapsed at his room and rushed to the St. Mary's Hospital Lacor. Fifteen minutes from the first news, we got a more dreaded news... that Johnson has been pronounced dead. This drove all of us very crazy. I drove with three staff to the Hospital, and confirmed that, indeed our fellow friend and staff is already dead.  Due to the nature of his sudden death, we decided to finance a postmotem to establish the nature of his death, and the results showed, our colleague suffered silently from diabetes without the knowledge of both himself and family. On July 11, 2014, we took his body and gave a decent burial at his ancestral home in Kona Kilak, Pader district, Northern Uganda. Our team have suffered signififcant trauma with this tragic death, and as a result, the organization has passed a resolution to establish a Medical Center in memory of the late Johnson, with the sole objective of providing young people access to information and services on diabetes, sexual and reproductive health and HIV/AIDS prevention, among others. The Center shall also coordinate a range of community outreaches to educate the masses about diabetes and related community health issues with the aim of preventing the tragic death in communities which is caused by lack of information on prevention. We have already secured a building for the next 6 months, and we are doing this fundraising to mobilize resources for procuring CBC Analyser, assorted Medical Beds, assorted laboratory equipments and drugs and supplies for the pharmacy section.
