Rainbow & Cloud Bathroom Renovation Project!

Hi,

My name is Agnes. I am married to Desmond (date+marriage 18 years) with 2 young kids and we are from Malaysia (yes, the beautiful country between Thailand and Singapore >_<”)

So that’s the boring stuff outta way.

We recently brought our first home together at the beginning of 2018. An old double-storey terrace house, in an old area which We.Just.Cant.Move.Out.From because my in laws stays 5 mins away, my mum stays 10 minutes away and my kids go to school the same area. Not to mention the convenience of going back every weekend to my mum’s house for free food/electricity/shower/babysitting.*I always told my mum that the only way we will move further is if they die. Yes. I told them that.

The buying process took approximately 5 months, we paid with loads of cash and still need to take out a loan. On a side note, now we know why everyone is buying new developments, because the upfront cost for buying subsale is crazy! But too late for that now…

We finally got the keys, and now moving on with the renovations. Fortunately, most of the major works have been done (extensions, balcony, tiles, etc). I have a thing with open concept, so most of our budget goes to hacking walls and opening up space. We need the S.P.A.C.E for the kids to run havoc.

So we searched for recommendation for contractors, and narrowed it down to someone we know. Chances are, if he does a shabby job, we know where he stays…?

So we showed him our new place, our ideas, what we wanted and most importantly, how much we can spend. A week later we had a very detailed quotation. Most of the work we wanted is within our budget, except for ONE Big Ticket Item >> The girls’ bathroom.

It is a shared bathroom between 2 room. The bathroom is weirdly constructed; small sized bathroom (shower+toilet+sink), with 3 doors (1 to Room A, 1 to Room B and 1 to back balcony). So a separate quotation was given for this, and the idea is to turn it into 2 separate bathroom (so each room has its own ensuite). Don’t ask me how it is done, probably a swish of the magical wand,… depending on how fast the money gets paid, I supposed.

Most of the budget will be used to pull down walls for space, fix the driveway, fix the flooring, hack more walls for windows (I am a bit claustrophobic). Isn’t that how they sell houses on TV shows? “…A lot of natural light..”.

We did some calculation, and the figures shows that we might be able to pull it through (both the planned renovations & the kids’ bathroom project). We will even have cash left for emergency (but that’s the kid’s edu money on standby). But, we won’t have any cash left for additional furniture, which is completely fine, because we can use our old sofa, tv, bed and plastic table for dining (well, it still works right?)

So why do we need the money?

Well, every little helps right?

Given the priority and budget, 9 items can be ticked off the list for around the same price of 1 (the kids’s bathroom project). Those 10 items are below:

• Car Porch Area
• Living Hall
• Kitchen
• Ground Floor Bath
• 1^st Floor Masterbath
• Tiling Works
• Painting Works
• General Works
• Balcony
• 1^st Floor Bath (Kids Bathroom Project)

Yeap, no works on bedrooms, no build-in cupboards, no plaster ceiling, no chandelier, no fancy wallpaper/carpentry either. Just a lot Hack, Repair, Hack, Replace, Hack & more Hack.

So based on the above, unfortunately, the Kids Bathroom Project would have to take a backseat. So we just trying our luck to see if we can raise the extra funding for the kids’ project. Estimated cost is about RM30k (approx. USD7.5k) for the Kids’ Bathroom Project. So we would like to raise RM20k (approx. USD5k) to help us pull this through. Any extra will go to the kid’s Edu fund. We will post pictures once we’re done!

AND, although I am (shamelessly) asking for $$$, you will noticed more cases that need the money more than us. If you would like to fund someone, I would suggest giving it to someone else more deserving, but can perhaps can reserve a few $ (USD1) for us? Pleazzzee…?

What happens if we don’t raise anything? Very likely, we will try to squeeze the project through anyhow. Don’t know how but, hey, it is all about the kids right?

If you do not wish to donate, can we ask for lots and lots of prayers that the renovation works will go through smoothly, without any major hiccups and hidden/additional costs?? This WILLL definitely help!

We appreciate all your contribution and/or prayers for this project! The kids will love you for it! And the peace and quiet that we will have from not having two girls fighting to use the same bathroom as they grow up!
