I was diagnosed with CF when I was 3 years old, because before that no one knew about the cystic fibrosis in Pakistan, (now CFERS are diagnosed through only Sweat test)
well I had so many trials and irrelevant experiments in hospitals (Agha Khan university & Hospital ) when I was born till the age of 3, and then a lady dr. who came from London diagnosed me as a Cystic Fibrosis Patient and i started taking the Creons, nebs and other related medicines for my better health .... My health was really good n better few years back but now a bit stressful and difficult as time passing by.

About Ayesha ( My Little Sister )

The proverb “Health is Wealth” is only understood and appreciated when one falls ill or lacks the health. Consider yourself fortunate and enjoy the pleasures of life if you are health and fit. This was not to be the case with Ayesha, who is a 20 years old young girl from Karachi in Pakistan. She was born with a life-limiting genetic disease called Cystic Fibrosis (CF). Very little is known about this condition in Pakistan. There are no designated centers for its treatment and medicines are scarcely available and very expensive. The disease mostly involves the lungs and the digestive system. The treatment for CF is life long and requires twice a day chest physiotherapy, nebulisers and antibiotics to keep the chest clear of any infections. Digestive medicines (Creon) have to be taken with every meal to help with digestion. Extra vitamin supplements are also required on daily basis. Despite all this, patients with CF frequently suffer from break through chest infections and need hospitalization for intravenous antibiotics.

In Pakistan, children with CF die at a very young age, usually without the diagnosis ever being made. Ayesha managed to fight against all odds – but 6 years ago was struck with another life threatening disease, Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, which a type of blood cell cancer involving the glands. Ayesha received cycles of chemotherapy - and being a fighter – went into remission. The cancer treatment is also very expensive and was financed from the limited family resource.

When things seemed to be under control, Ayesha started experiencing tummy pains. The fear of the lymphoma coming back (recurrence/relapse) was a real fear. She underwent CT scan of the abdomen, which identified multiple gland in the abdomen. It also detected an unexpected lesion in the large bowel. Biopsy result of this lesion came as a big shock. We could not believe what we heard. Ayesha had cancer (adenocarcinoma) of the large bowel, totally unrelated to her other conditions. Another cancer and the 3rd life threatening condition. Ayesha is now undergoing resection of the tumour, along with removal of the gut. She then needs to go through further chemotherapy following the surgery.

Ayesha is really a very brave girl and a fighter. She is determined to fight on and beat the cancer. our family financial circumstances are limited and she desperately needs your help to fund her cancer treatment. The family have previously coped, although with struggle, without seeking any other financial help. But this is no longer possible. The only hope for us to live a peaceful life and breath properly is to get a proper treatment and medications from a Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Trusts or CF Centers.
