Good day! My name is Jollie and I am a Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) warrior. RA is an autoimmune and inflammatory disease where the immune system attacks healthy cells in the body (joints) by mistake, causing painful swelling in the affected parts of the body.

I was a 29-year-old breadwinner when my finger joints started to swell back in 2014. I had to leave my 5.5-year job because my hands can no longer keep up with the demands of my work. Fortunately, I got an online freelance job which supported my medical treatment and physical therapy in 2016.

I tried an office-based job again but being immunosuppressed (due to my medicines) is quite challenging. Also, RA got to my wrists and affected the mobility of my right wrist.

For the past years, even part-time online or office jobs are taxing as I cannot commit to fixed work hours. Flare-ups are unannounced even with a ‘clean’ diet and wrist pain creeps in when I am in my workaholic mode.

I also started doing yoga as part of my therapy but my right wrist became a problem, so I had to stop. I can bend it outwards with less pain now but bending it inwards is just too painful.

I have been looking at platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment since 2016 (for my fingers). This technology is quite young here in the Philippines. This uses injections of a concentration of the patient's own platelets to fast-track the healing of injured tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints. The doctor said that he has been using it on Osteoarthritis patients but not on RA yet. Since physical therapy was enough to help my partially dislocated finger joints, I did not pursue the PRP treatment then.

I did another round of physical therapy (for my wrist this time) and it was unsuccessful. I managed to strengthen my right wrist lately but the pain is still there. Now, I wish to undergo the PRP treatment even if the doctor said that it is not 100% effective on my RA joints. It is still a little spark of hope that I can get back to work, function as a better part of the community, and pay it forward.

The whole procedure is quite expensive so I am hoping that you will be able to help me raise the fund that I need. I know this is a challenging time for everyone, hence any assistance you can offer will mean so much to me. Thank you for your time and please stay safe.
