Il-Kangere Primary School is located at the base of Mt. Kilimanjaro, bordering Amboseli National Park, Kenya. This little, one room schoolhouse, teaches young Maasai children (ages 2-6) in English, Swahili and Maa. They are taught basic language concepts to prepare them to attend Elementary School at a nearby village.
Unfortunately, the school is located just outside the protection of the village. The children cannot go outside to play for fear of visiting wildlife. Originally, the villagers had a metal fence surrounding the schoolyard, but elephants tore the fence down.
Grade 3 students from ISK visit this village yearly working to improve the school. This year, ISK students would like to help build a solid fence (with rock and concrete) so the children could play outside and be safe from wandering elephants.
