Project Kapatid is raising P185,000 to help Luke get a prosthetic leg. We would like to invite you to join us in this project so he can start walking again by Christmas. Let us show Luke that he is not alone and that God is working in his life to make this happen.

Thank you for your support!

In 2019, we organized Project Kapatid to provide financial and emotional support for pediatric cancer patients. Our purpose is to give financial aid in the form of medical procedures, and emotional help by engaging the children in enjoyable activities together.

We chose the name 'Kapatid', Filipino for 'brother', because we felt that it represents our project perfectly. The word 'kapatid' connotes familial bonds, and with such familial bonds, we aim to help the pediatric patients realise that they are not alone in this part of their life.

Recently, we met Luke Garlitos, who was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma (cancer of the bone) in August of last year. Luke was an active kid who enjoyed playing basketball, skating and biking using a bike "bigger than he was".

Unfortunately, his illness required amputation and he lost his left leg just 3 days after his 12th birthday.

According to Luke, "The day that I cried so much was the day that my parents told me I needed to be amputated. My first words were: How can I run again? My mom showed me videos of amputees who were able to run again, play basketball again, and even join the paralympics. I started to feel better knowing that I am not alone.

A day after my surgery, I had a dream. I dreamt of walking again. My mom said it was God, showing me my new life. That God will be my other leg, letting me know that I can do anything with Him by my side."

Luke has completed his chemotherapy sessions and, thankfully, is now in remission. He looks forward to getting his prosthetic leg in the future and playing basketball again. He dreams of becoming a physical therapist when he grows up to help kids like him do their favorite activities again.

Despite his difficult medical condition, Luke continued his studies and graduated from Grade 6 last May.
