I will be participating at Maseru Plantation Medical Volunteer event in Kokopo, Papua New Guinea (PNG). Kokopo is located in the eastern region, and is the capital of the East New Britain province for the past 20 years. Strong growth in the mining and resource sector has led the country’s economy in the past 2 years. Despite this, many people live in extreme poverty, with about one-third of the population living on less than USD 1.25 per day. The core purpose of this Volunteer event is to deliver humanitarian objectives, including providing simple medical assistance and improving health literacy. I intend to raise SGD 5000. This amount will be used to purchase specific medical supplies required by the local clinic. A group of specialists/visiting doctors will advise and teach the local doctors on how best to manage and operate the clinic which essentially serves the population in the region. The nearest hospital is located 2 hours boat ride away. Improving health literacy includes providing education and guidance on how to cultivate good hygiene habits. These include washing hands, body care and dental oral care. The remaining amount raised would be use to provide health and sanitary packs for the people. Thank you for your generous contribution.
