Please save Teddy

Warm greetings and hugs from Teddy and mama to everyone reading this. My name is Viji. I am Teddy’s mom. Teddy also fondly known as Mr. Mau Mau is a cute and chubby domestic short hair boy who weighs almost 7kgs.

Prior to January 1st, 2021, for nearly three months, Teddy who was a stray used to come to my house verandah and would ask for food. He will wait at the sliding door and will keep meowing, his meowing will sound like “mau, mau” {means “want, want” in Malay language). On New Year’s Day January 1st, we took him into our home as we constantly worried about his well-being outside.

Two months ago, we neutered him and he recovered well. About a month ago, we noticed his belly was bloated and initially he was given antibiotics for gas troubles. Since his condition persisted, we made an appointment with Hospital Veterinary UPM.

On 16/03/2021, he was thoroughly examined by Dr. Aaron of UPM. An X-ray and scan were done and Dr. Aaron diagnosed Teddy to be suffering from Wet FIP, Feline Infectious Peritonitis. On the same day, 700 ml of fluid was drained from Teddy’s stomach and he was placed on steroid, Prednisolone 5mg for a week to suppress his antibodies from spreading the virus further.

After returning home, my daughters’ and I frantically googled to find a cure for Teddy. We learnt of GS441524 and our hearts sank upon learning the exorbitant price of the medication. We felt a great relief knowing this novel drug has cured many cats with FIP. It's heartbreaking to learn this drug is not made available and traded in the black market with exorbitant prices.

I am a single mum who is doing e-hailing to earn my income. I am already supporting two daughters who are still studying and taking care of 5 stray cats. I am keeping up with Teddy's weekly medical bills and his special diet and supplements. I simply don’t have the financial means to purchase GS441524 for Teddy. Normally, I never like to trouble anyone but in Teddy’s case; I can never forgive myself if I didn't do my best to save him as there’s still help available if I sought. Without hesitation, I decided to seek help from crowd funding platform to seek help for Teddy.

Based on Teddy’s weight, he requires 7 ml vial (total 24 vials) with 20mg concentration for 84 days estimated at RM11,976. Since I am using CROWD FUNDING, the local GS441524 supplier, Basmifip has given a 50% discount and the estimated cost for GS441524 is RM5,988, approximately US1500. I will manage my neighborhood vet’s charges to administer the injections for Teddy.

Teddy is young, energetic and still very healthy as he is in the early stage of FIP and stands a good chance of making a full recovery. I humbly beg all the kind-hearted beautiful souls to donate generously for Teddy’s treatment on an urgent basis to avoid further progression of his disease. I strongly believe good deeds must always go around, my daughters and I always will make it a point to donate whenever we can to any other pet that is in need. As Teddy's mama, I am committed in making sure Teddy is totally loved, well cared and protected like a child.
