We have been living in Thailand for 25 years and opened Real Divers scuba dive center 15 years ago. We could never have imagined that the situation for the people we call friends and neighbours could become so dire. This will get worse as realistically all businesses will not be open until earliest June 1st.
The present crisis has been difficult for everyone in the world. In Pattaya, Thailand which is a tourist town, we have seen the situation rapidly deteriorate to the point where people are struggeling to feed themselves and their families. This is only going to get worse over time as there are obviously no tourists coming. Most Thai's are getting zero government help or benefits as they either don't warrant it because of tax reasons or the government just can't help. This leaves the Thai people no option other than to try to fend for themselves, which is almost impossible with the whole town closed down.
Many are risking infection by queing up daily for small amounts of food offered by generous business owners who want to help. While this is good, this isn't enough. We plan to provide as many Thai families as possible with a 5kg bag of uncooked rice as well as a carton of eggs and canned food. This should help them feed their families for several days and enable them to stay away from the crowds as much as possible. We will coordinate with city hall to ensure the distribution of food is as safe as possible.
Please help us help the Thais, who have been so good to all of us in all of our times in Thailand. Even 10 to 20 dollars can help feed a Thai family for several days. Any amount of money or help that you could spare would be greatly appreciated. Real Divers will offer $15 off the next dive trip or PADI course to anyone who donates. Please save us a screen shot of your donation for verification.
