Please help save my Dearest mother.

My mother's name is Andrea. She has been diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) – a chronic condition that causes lung scarring and renders breathing difficult. Lung transplantation is vital for her as well as a knee surgery that will fix her broken kneecap as well as torn ligaments.

The poor woman is 65 years old she has not been able to work for nearly twenty years because of her disease and injury. Fortunately, our family was able to save enough money for the surgery and it was finally scheduled on the 18th of September 2017.

Unfortunately for us, something happened to my bank account and I will not be able to access the money during the next two weeks, according to the bank authorities. They say that there was a suspicious activity and there also was unclear spending history during the past 6 months – the reason they have locked my account. This can’t be true since I never used the money for the grandmother’s surgery and never used the bank account. The problem is that she needs the money for the first surgery right now and the bank officials told me we would have to wait two more weeks for my bank account to be available again.

We can’t postpone the surgery and if she does not have it on the 18th of September she may not survive.Please, help me raise the money and help me save the life of the person I love the most.

Andrea has spent most of her life working as a house cleaner in Ghana. Now 65-years-old and lacking any resources, she finds herself in need of immediate medical attention. She has been diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) – a chronic condition that causes lung scarring and renders breathing difficult. While treatments exist that can alleviate the symptoms of IPF, there is no way to reverse the scarring of the lungs, thus making a lung transplant necessary for her. In addition to this, she is also in need of a knee surgery owing to severe falls when she used to work as a cleaner which led to a broken kneecap as well as torn ligaments, to the extent that she finds it difficult to stand.

She worked in Ghana as a house cleaner for a number of people. It was here that, owing to the negligence of her employers, she experienced a fall that proved fatal to her knees. Despite this, she continued working, primarily because she needed the money. Over the course of the following years, such accidents kept happening, until, at the age of 65, Andrea, despite lacking any other source of income, was forced to quit her job as a house cleaner, unable even to mop the floor without excruciating pain. By this time, she had also begun experiencing severe shortness of breath and tiredness – symptoms associated with IPF.

It has been nearly twenty years since Andrea stopped working as a cleaner, and has since been unable to find employment owing to her disease and injury. Since then, her life has depended on the kindness of neighbours. But now, without getting a lung transplant and knee surgery, it would become very difficult for her to get by.

While she had begun experiencing the symptoms of IPF even before she stopped working, she was not diagnosed until recently. Owing to being out of work for nearly twenty years, she has no savings and no resources that can help towards her cure. She also has no carers, making it difficult for her to carry out even the simplest of daily chores.

The doctors at the korle-bu teaching Hospital that diagnosed her recommend surgery back In our home country in Taiwan to help her recover, or, at the very least, live a dignified life. She would firstly need to be flown back to Taiwan, a knee surgery to repair her broken kneecap and torn ligaments, as well as a lung transplant that would allow her a longer, less strained life. Both surgeries including the flight expenses back to Taiwan would amount to a total of $560,000 – a sum that she cannot afford.

The money needs to be collected as soon as possible. Lung donors are extremely rare, and finding a suitable donor could take months. Meanwhile, my mother's condition deteriorates with each passing day. She continues to live near a wood-processing plant – which is largely responsible for her IPF – and will do so until the necessary money is procured for her treatment. This calls for immediate action, which is why I have initiated this Gogetfunding campaign, aiming to raise the stipulated amount within two months.

There are several other women like Andrea in Ghana and Taiwan as well as across the world – elderly, alone, and more often than not, diseased and injured, and without care. While it would be beyond our reaches to help everyone, a contribution towards helping one individual could make a difference. The money you would donate would go exclusively towards Andrea's surgery, as well as pre- and post-surgery treatments, including follow-up medications. A portion of it would also go towards securing safer and less harmful lodgings for her in order that her IPF doesn’t get aggravated.
