Campaign Story
Hi, this is Allyssa Laconico! I hope you spare me a little bit of your time to hear my story.
Last April 17, 2023, I was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease (secondary to Chronic Glomerulonephritis) Stage 5. Simply put, my kidneys have lost most of their ability to function (only less than fifteen percent (15%) of their function remains).
Last May 31, 2023, I was admitted to the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) due to persisting complications associated with my condition:
1. Edema (pamamanas) and inflammation (pamamaga) in different parts of the body
- The toxin and water buildup started from my feet and moved up to my arms, stomach, and face. This eventually led to my severe shortness of breath due to the congestion around my lung area.
2. Anemia
- My kidneys are now failing to support the creation of erythropoietin, a hormone that helps produce red blood cells, which results in anemia.
3. Increased phosphorus and potassium in the blood
- Excess phosphorus and potassium remain in my blood causing itch on the skin and visible rashes. In the long run, this may even lead to heart, bone, muscle, and nerve problems.
To manage all these symptoms, I had to undergo emergency hemodialysis on June 1, 2023. Up until this point, I have to regularly attend my dialysis treatment three (3) times a week, with each session lasting for four (4) hours.
In almost like a blink of an eye, I had to sacrifice a lot of things to remain focused on my treatment and recovery. Most people would definitely agree that I am a very private person, but I decided to share my story in hopes of reaching out and engaging you to be part of my journey to recovery.
We are hoping that I can undergo a kidney transplant soon. With this, my family and I humbly seek everyone’s help in raising funds so we may afford this operation soon.
I would be more than grateful if you could also share about my fundraising!
