Uncle Q called us yesterday afternoon after a long period of being out of contact. One of our volunteers met him and Auntie Q during stray feeding many years ago - the elderly couple drive an old pickup and have been feeding at an industrial estate daily for over thirty years. Time took its toil on the old couple, but they have never failed the dogs rain or shine.
We later learnt that Auntie Q had passed on early this year. Uncle Q is now staying alone at his kelong with three dogs as his only companions, but his kind neighbours check on him daily to ensure he is well. Uncle Q was worried sick about his biggest dog Big Boy, a large brown dog who has been coughing for some time and nearly collapsed yesterday. We told Uncle Q we will bring Big Boy to the vet clinic for medical assistance, but we were unable to have immediate access to Big Boy due to the location.
Big Boy has been diagnosed with advanced stage heartworm, and the vet did advise us he might not make it. The chest x-rays looked really cloudy which were not good at all. We saw Big Boy labouredly breathing and looking listless, but we are not giving up on him as yet. Treatment has started and he is on drip for now - the next few days are very crucial.
We need your help for Big Boy, as we are expecting him to be warded for at least a week and given his size, the bill will be larger than normal. We will help Uncle Q through this and hopefully let Big Boy continue to accompany him (after he is fully recovered).
