We are looking to raise $2000 within a period of 60 days to help us move across the country to reach more schools and assist more families. We therefore request you, friends and family, to join us in this mission of promoting literacy in our region by donating to create awareness and advance our startup to the next level.

What is Patashule?

Patashule (Swahili word for ‘find school’) is an innovative platform that enables Kenyans to search, find, and digitally apply to schools best suited for their children.

What are the educational challenges faced by Kenyan communities?

Families across the country continue to face challenges when enrolling their children in school. One challenge families experience is the lack of availability and inaccessibility of reliable, adequate and accurate information about the schools within and outside their community. Increasing transport costs are another deterrence for families wanting to educate their children. Parents and guardians often travel long distances across the country in search of a school best suited to the educational needs of their children. Since this process is time-consuming and expensive, most parents are compelled to either place their children in an unsuitable school close to home or no school at all.

How does Patashule help?

Step 1: Search - Patashule creates a customized list of schools generated through the use of search filters such as location, school type, school level, and curriculum that can be digitally accessed by parents and guardians from anywhere in the country.

Step 2: Find - Patashule allows parents to make an informed preliminary decision when finding a school for their children. With our search platform customized to the needs of the users, parents can assess basic information pertaining to each of the schools that fit their selection criteria.

Step 3: Apply - Patashule provides a unique feature where parents and guardians can apply online for an intake interview with a school they have selected. This not only saves parents and guardians time and money, but it also prevents parents, guardians and children from experiencing endless disappointments as a result of travelling to the school only to be informed that their application has been rejected.

Step 4: Relax - After a parent or a guardian applies to a school through our platform, the Patashule team works hard to provide the parent or guardian with a timely response in regards to the status of their application.

Why should you invest in Patashule?

We believe that education is a right and every child should have access to basic education. When parents and guardians lack access to adequate information about schools, this has a detrimental impact on children. The lack of information combined with the complexity of the application process has led to the current situation, where children not only lack the forum to build upon their strengths and talents but are also compelled to begin education later in their lives, which hinders their educational growth.

Where will the money go?

Meet the team

Sam Achola: Founder and CEO

Sam is a self-taught software developer, who serves as a backend developer, provides customer support and makes all of the day-to-day management decisions. He is also responsible for developing as well as implementing the long term and short-term goals of Patashule. When he is not searching for ways to innovate, he devotes his time volunteering at CHRISC Kenya, a humanitarian organization that empowers youth through art and sports and teaches underprivileged youth in his community valuable tech skills. Sam also plays for Mwamba RFC, a local rugby team.

Mathew Njuguna: Co-Founder and Lead Designer

Mathew is a skilled designer, whose expertise has enabled Patashule to create an accessible and interactive online platform. He has also worked with different agencies in Kenya as a front-end developer. Within his community in Nairobi, Mathew has been an active advocate for promoting self-sufficiency of street children. He is also a talented striker for a local soccer team in Kiambu, Kenya.

Peter Mwashi: Co-Founder and Marketing Lead

Peter has devoted his career to community development initiatives that seek to improve the social and economic circumstances of Korogocho, a slum community in Korogocho. He believes that the economic pursuit of a business should be balanced with its social responsibility to develop vulnerable communities. This was the reason why Peter initially joined the Patashule team. In his view, Patashule achieves this balance as it enhances market competition amongst schools while promoting the accessibility of education. Being a parent, Peter sees Patashule’s potential in providing suitable options for parents when finding schools for their children.
