My Papa’s Mitral Valve Replacement

Allow me to introduce my Dad to you — Meliton “Narciso” Abellana Olaguera. He is a very active man — loves to talk and chitchat, loves to walk, loves to bike, loves to cook for us and for everyone, loves to work, loves to do carpentry and just fix anything even if it’s not broken 😅 He can’t be tamed down and it feels like he doesn’t get tired at all. He always want to do things and he doesn’t want to sit all day.

But when his Mitral Valve Prolapse progressed, he started to feel the opposite. He’s always tired even with minimal activities. He always wants to sit, lay down in bed and he can’t speak fully because he feels he’s running out of breath. He feels weak each day and he’s really having a hard time breathing on his own.

Last January 5, 2021, when we are doing some laboratories, he was really having a difficult time breathing and wanted to be brought to the Emergency Room. There we found out that he’s heart was beating too fast which causes he’s difficulty in breathing. Later on, we found out that there were some bacteria that grew in his valve and his lung was affected already.

The only way the Doctors can cure this is by surgery. That is also the reason why we have decided to put up this fundraising page. We are hoping that our friends, family or anyone would help us raise funds due to high medical costs and other expenses regarding my Dad’s health condition. We love our Papa so much and your help would really mean a lot to us.

January 12, 2021 — Open-Heart Surgery

• This is for rescheduling as the hospital, Makati Medical Center, is requesting for an initial deposit amounting to PHP 1,200,000 and we cannot provide it just yet as we are still pooling resources.

January 14, 2021 — Transferred to Philippine Heart Center (PHC)

• We transferred Papa to PHC in hopes of minimizing the medical cost and to meet the budget, which is stated above, for the Open-Heart Surgery together with the hospitalization bills which includes the room and a lot of medications.

We are still awaiting for the schedule of the surgery. We will keep everyone posted. Thank you.
