“PAD” A MAASAI GIRL

PAD A MAASAI GIRL PROJECT:

Aims to buy sanitary towels for young maasai Girls in schools, in order to help this young generation of Girls complete their Education and achieve their desired dreams since; Maasai women and girls remain among the most marginalized citizens in sub-Saharan Africa. Enabling gender equality and empowering women are critical to advancing progress and growth in the society. Maasai women and girls must have greater access to Education and control over resources, opportunities, and decision-making power in order to sustainably reduce extreme poverty, build healthy communities, and promote inclusive growth.

Women and girls in Narok County experience a lot of gender-based violence, which causes them to suffer fear, guilt, lack of love and self-confidence. These conditions have detrimental psychosocial effects to their wellbeing, and to their children and society at large. Most forms of gender-based violence include early and forced marriages, girl child abductions, rape and marital sexual abuses, denial of girl child education, physical harm, and wife inheritance among others. Victims of rape are forced to ‘marry’ their abusers as culturally it would bring shame to the family and no marriage suitors will come for her. All these factors work to deny girls the right to complete their education. Among the expected outcomes of this proposed project include enhanced awareness of girl child rights;
