Dearest Family and Friends,
For those who don’t know, Ellie was diagnosed with subaortic ventricular septal defect (VSD) when she was 1 month old. Her pedia cardiologist recommended a “wait and see” approach because there is a possibility that the small hole in her heart will close naturally.
Last Sunday, June 24, Ellie had her follow up 2D Echo and we were told by the doctor that we cannot wait any more for the hole to close because it is already starting to damage the aortic valve and could cause more complications for her (i.e. heart failure). This means she needs to undergo open heart surgery to put a “patch” on the hole, possibly in October.
We are devastated. We can’t imagine Ellie going through all of this at such a young age. We are storming the heavens with prayers that her next ultrasound in September will be better and that the doctor will decide to delay the procedure or, by God’s miracle, that there will be no need for surgery. Until then, we need to prepare ourselves - mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually and financially - and we know we cannot do it alone. The surgery will cost around 1 million pesos, and even if we work 24 hours a day, we cannot raise that amount of money in a short span of time.
It takes a lot of strength to help others, but it takes a lot more strength to ask for help. We are knocking on your hearts for help and prayers for our dear daughter, Ellie. Any help would be welcome - your physical presence, time, emotional or financial support, and most of all, prayers for our little one. We pray for a miracle that she will not need surgery, but if it is the only way to make her better, we pray that we will be strong enough to get through it. We know God answers prayers and that He is merciful.
Thank you and may God bless us all.
RJ, Tin and Ellie Jimenez
