In Tanzania prices for food are rising meaning that many people are going to starve. I know this because this summer I was volunteering with my girlfriend at a nursery school and orphanage outside the town of Moshi. My girlfriend has been there four times before and return because she fell in love with the kids and the place the first time she was there. And after being there I can say that I am in love too.

But sadly she said that she could see that the children has gotten thinner since she were there the last time, which was in february this year! So, just after a few months of higher prices you can see the effects of it. Therefore we sat down and talked to the manager of buying food to them, and he was very happy with that suggestion. But after a few days of thinking we knew that it was going to be a short-sighted solution. So we decided to ask him about the possibility of buying some land to them, so they could have their own farm to grow their crops.

The manager had already thought about that, and actually had contacted some people to hear about some land. He found a very good farm, that is being taken care of by the state, so that there is accessible water at all times. The land is 2 acres big and, with the seeds for the first season, will cost 900 dollars, which is very cheap. The manager has seen the farm, and since he has a small private farm, he can tell what is good land and what is not, and he said that this was good land.

Little information about me and my girlfriend: My name is Benjamin and I am 21 years old and from Denmark. I am studying sociology and cultural analysis. My girlfriend is called Mia, she is 22 and is studying the same as me and also from Denmark. She has been at the orphanage 5 times since she was there for the first time in 2015.

The orphanage: It is located in New Land, and is called New Land Nursery School and Orphanage. It gives home to 65 orphans ranging from 3-20, and furthermore provides nursery school education for the orphans at the orphanage and non-orphans in the surrounding village. The school takes care of 60 kids rangning from 3-6, while the older kids go to school 1-2 hours away. It is placed around 30 minutes from the town of Moshi, Tanzania.
