The Story of Godliver

Please meet Godliver, one of many orphaned children who attend Blessed Junior School in Kenya. Watch her video story. She lives in a hilltop community above Webuye, a small agricultural town in Kenya. Godliver lost her Dad and Mom in an accident 6 years ago and now lives with her Aunt, a single mother. Her Aunt cares for three children of her own, plus Godliver and her two siblings. Her Aunt is in poor health and cannot afford to take Godliver to other schools. Three meals a day in their home is a major challenge. Blessed School gives Godliver and other children the wonderful and critical opportunity to learn, play with others, and have nourishing meals in a safe, supportive environment.

About Blessed Junior

Blessed School in Webuye is a community elementary school located in Kenya’s western hill country. There are 420 students and 19 dedicated teachers on our small campus. The school is from kindergarten to the fifth grade, with seven different classes following the Kenya Primary Education Syllabus.

Currently, the school like another school in Kenya, have been affected by COVID-19. 70% of the children are back to their respective guardian homes and 30% are back in school since the government have given a chance for those that are in Grade 4 and Grade 8. Either way, the school still needs to keeping feeding the children at school and at home.

The school provides a structure of benefits for these children like Godliver. In order to help these children from poor family backgrounds, the school serves breakfast and lunch. Even then, these children often may often not have a dinner at home and may have to go hungry simply to help their family live.

Urgently we need food stuffs and COVID-19 Prevention Masks, Sanitizers and Washing hands requirements.

The challenge

This school is not funded by the government in any way. Blessed School relies solely on outside donations. The largest expense is the students' breakfast and lunch program. Our school of more than 400 students spends more than USD $2,000 a month just on meals. Even then, the children’s lunch is only very simple food (corn, peanuts, soybeans, etc.). Some students in the school may still not have enough for basic, daily nutrition.

The students at Blessed Junior are lovely children. Our teachers need energy to keep up with these kids but it is fulfilling work. Our excellent teaching staff instills spiritual and intellectual foundations in our students and encourages and inspires them every step of the way.

However, our food costs are huge and there is not enough money to maintain it. The budget of the feeding program is below. We hope that you will lend a hand and truly make a big difference — directly and personally — to these Kenyan children. Please help us provide the daily meals they need.

The Appeal

Below is a breakdown of the cost of children’s food for the month and COVID-19 PPEs:

1. Rice = $613

2. Corn = $200

3. Bean = $267

4. Green gram = $74

5. Sugar = $467

6. Finger millet = $67

7. Milk = $39

8. Peanut = $60

9. Cassava = $70

10. Salt = $7

11. Sanitiers for both school and those at home children $500

12. Masks and washing hands equipents $100

The total amount for the monthly feeding program = USD $3000.

Thank you so very much for your help. We will provide feedback by e-mail.
