Ocean Swimming for my Dear Mum

Thank you for reading this... I used to feel lucky my direct family was never touched by cancer but that luck has definitely run out. You see my dear mum was diagnosed with aggressive stage 4 bowel cancer this year and its devastating and awful on so many levels. Medically I can't do anything to help her and I feel quite helpless as she goes through invasive surgery and grueling treatment.

But I can raise money for Cancer Research knowing these funds go directly to the salaries of super bright, smart, dedicated Australian Cancer Researcher's & Scientists through a great organisation called Can Too (http://www.cantoo.org.au/home).

Whilst I'd like to sit on the comfy couch to raise this money, instead I'm undertaking training for a 1km Ocean Swim in February next year at Sydney's famous Bondi Beach, (the event is called the North Bondi Classic http://www.northbondisurfclub.com/oceanswims/.) The idea is I train and do this event and you sponsor me. I'm aiming to raise $2,000 which will go directly to Can Too who use the money to fund the salaries of Cancer Researchers and Scientists.

Now, it has to be said, ocean swimming is so far beyond my comfort level...it's ridiculous. I'm not a good swimmer nor a strong swimmer. I get scared by swell, waves, surfers and shadowy things lurking under the water. Training is in the pool for stroke correction (much needed) and Saturday mornings for training drills down at famous Bondi Beach and already my body feels knackered.

 But I'll keep going, cos its something I can do for mum and for Cancer Research. Any money (small or not-so-small) you can throw in my direction will be so appreciated.

I know we get inundated for these requests, so my appreciation is genuine and heartfelt. Thank you so very much. (And if you hear of another shark sighting at Bondi Beach, would you mind keeping the "shark bait/shark biscuits" jokes to yourself. I'm already freaking out!)
