February 28, 2016 Update: Noah and Philona’s house now has a roof, see new photos below! Noah thanks God for all of you and for your generous support. They still need some funds to finish, so please continue to spread the word!
Valentine’s Day Update: Thanks to everyone’s generous donations and the help of many friends, Noah and Philona have made some amazing progress on their home site! They have a ways to go though to complete the plumbing and get a roof on so they have at least the basic elements of their home ready for their wedding which is only a month away! Please consider an initial donation or additional one if possible to help them meet their goal, may God continue to bless you all!
Their Story: Noah and Philona have known each other since December 2001, where they first met in a church in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. They started their relationship in 2004. Although they stopped dating for about 6 years, God brought them back together. Since reuniting, they have been combining their money to build their home in Petion-Ville to be ready for their marriage in March 2016.
Philona is originally from Cap-Haitien and was orphaned at a young age. As a teenager she moved to Port-au-Prince to live with an aunt. Philona has strived to be self-sufficient most of her life, learning how to make various items (jewelry, sandals, and clothing) to take care of herself and to pay for her schooling.
Noah is from Kenscoff, Haiti. After high school, he studied at a university in Port-au-Prince. Unfortunately Noah was not able to finish his schooling, due to the financial hardship it placed on his family. Noah unselfishly put his educational dreams on hold and started looking for gainful employment to help his family. Noah recognized with 10 children in a family, it wasn't easy for his parents to pay for his education. Since 2012, Noah has worked for Chances for Children, an organization that works to provide orphan care and to provide care for children and strengthen communities in Kenscoff and many other places in Haiti.
In Haiti, it's very hard for people to own a home, most people do not have enough money to rent a house. Currently the limited land and houses are overpriced, so the idea of owning a home is just a dream for many. Noah and Philona have been able to put a down payment on a small piece of land that currently has one small little room on it. They have tried to further the construction but they are faced with the increased costs of materials due to most of these items being imported to Haiti.
This couple truly wants to fulfill their dream of building a house before their wedding. Therefore we decided to ask all of their friends to help us make this dream come true for them. They both have said “even if we do not finish the house, we would like to get it to a level that we can stay in it after our wedding. “We just need to build 1 bathroom and cisterns at the house”. We know that they will have a lot more to do to complete their home, as you see in the pictures but WE think that together we can assist them in raising $10,000 US.
Noah and Philona want you to know that they “already give thanks to all of you, because we know your help with assist us in reaching our dream. We will post updated info and pictures as we make progress”.
Thank you and God bless you,
