No for gender stereotypes, yes for equality
I was born and live all my life in Moldova, which probably not everyone has heard of. It is a small country with a population of about 3 million.
Our country has a rich history and a huge number of traditions that relate to all social components of life. The biggest problem in our country, in my opinion, is the infringement of women's rights. As a child, I realized that I am a girl and I can't do much in comparison with boys. With each new stage of life, new difficulties were added. The girl is the future wife, mother, the keeper of the hearth and not a person who is capable and wants to move up the career ladder in a profession she likes. The stigma of a good and obedient wife should hang on every woman, and the birth and education of a new generation is the only goal and desire that should be present in her head.
“This is not a woman’s business”, “This job is clearly not suitable for a woman,” all too often I have heard day after day trying to find myself.
In our country, a man is the head of the family, so it has been from time immemorial, this is how religion says and no one ever argues with it. The main one means he must control everything, social life, interests, hobbies, etc. The most vulnerable part of the female population who arrive in such slavery are the villagers. Domestic violence is a taboo topic for our country. Frightening statistics show that over 60% of women have experienced at least one type of violence, and only less than 20% of victims report having experienced domestic violence. The number of victims could have been less if not for the mentality and education of the population. It's even worse to talk about sexual abuse and rape. They are ashamed to talk about this, complain or declare to the law enforcement agencies for fear of condemnation and ridicule from society and even relatives and friends. 40% of the population believes that the victim herself is to blame for what happened and is herself a provocateur. It is impossible to keep silent about this, it is impossible to endure. Our country needs support, women need support.
Stereotypical patriarchal thinking and humility with the idea of the role of women in society and the family, the main problem of the emergence of violence in the family and the violation of women's rights.
The main actions that can significantly help in solving this problem:
· Promotion of gender equality in all areas;
· Providing psychological assistance;
· Organization of rehabilitation services for victims of violence;
· Providing humanitarian assistance and support to victims of domestic violence who have overcome toxic relationships with the abuser;
· Legal protection for women victims of any violence.
I want change, I want to help those who cannot stand up for themselves. Funding for these actions will bring us closer to a common goal, gender equality and the disappearance of patriarchal stereotypes. I say no to oppression, violence and discrimination, and absolute yes to equality and respect.
