Hi friends! I have arrived in Kenya and am volunteering as a nurse in a small clinic in Ngong town, a town outside Nairobi where the culture of city life meets the hilly, rural life full of Masai tradition. Conditions at this clinic are poor to say the least, and equipment is in short supply and high demand. I am learning a great deal about battling tropical disease, as well as infection prevention. My goal is a simple one: I'd like to raise $700 by the time I leave here so that I can provide new supplies. Simple equipment necessary just to take vital signs is minimally available here at the moment. While I know that my hours volunteered are valued, I can truly say that monetary assistance is much more crucial. The money donated will be used to help the clinic directly at my discretion. New equipment will be bought for the clinic in order to make it safer for both the patient and the clinicians. My hosts here have been so gracious and my co-workers kind. I have been boasting about the generosity of my friends and family. If all my friends and family donate just a small amount, it will add up to a lot. Let's show them how generous we are!
