More than half of Asian newborns are affected by neonatal jaundice in the first few days. In Malaysia, most government hospitals offer phototherapy treatment but the wards are usually overcrowded due to insufficient phototherapy units. Often times the same cot and unit is shared among up to three babies, which may lead to infection. As for private hospitals, they are less affordable for the lower-income parents.
As a design engineer, I am working on a simple yet sufficiently efficient design of a portable phototherapy unit. Parents can treat their newborn child at home with this easy-to-use device.
This unit is a double-sided phototherapy device where the baby gets exposed to the bili-light from both top and bottom, hence giving them a well-distributed light treatment. This will also shorten the treatment duration.
As you can see this is just the 3D model of the design, I will need your help to fund this project so that I can fabricate the actual device, not one but many of them, to reach out to more parents. The sooner it rolls out the sooner it can help others.
