My sister’s road to a new face

As hard as it was for me to launch this campaign I decided to go for it as I would like to help my sister have a normal life. Her name is Lyubomira and her condition dates back to her birth in the distant 1983 when she was born in Bulgaria with the very rare Moebius syndrome.It is a non progressive craniofacial/neurological disorder that manifests itself primarily in facial paralysis. Individuals with Moebius syndrome cannot smile or frown, and do not have lateral eye movements. After a couple of surgeries on both her eyes while being a baby my sister could see but not really move her eyes to the sides. Her mouth was also affected by the paralysis so she can not close it properly or smile. After living with the condition for a mere 33 years we found a clinic in Paris,France that was willing to operate both the eyes and the mouth in order to help her close it. The surgery took place in the end of 2016 during which a nerve from her head was placed in the area of the mouth to help it close. Her eyelids were added tissue from the thigh to help them close (she sleeps with partially closed eyes due to the decreased tissue in the eyelid area).During the first few days the result of the surgery was brilliant until the moment when my sister got a sepsis,a life threatening infection, which destroyed the effect of the nerve that was place. This resulted in even more open mouth. At this point, the need to conduct the surgery again is imminent as (apart from the pure esthetic reasons) her teeth are decaying and her lungs are not fully developed due to the open mouth, which can lead to serious respiratory conditions. At this point, my family cannot finance the surgery, which for my sister will give her the chance to slowly start smiling and live longer.Most importantly, it will let her conduct a life of a fully capable human being, which she is. The rarity of the condition results in few doctors around the world actually performing any reconstructive surgeries on patients with Moebius.We found a team now we need an extra financial boost to finalize what was started.
