Medical Assistance for my Open Appendectomy Operation and Continuing Medication

Hello everyone!

My name is Mikhael, I’m 25, from the Philippines. I am a Medical Representative currently assigned in Dumaguete but I’m originally from Cavite, about 2 hours travel by plane and land. Although the distance of my work assignment is far from the comfort of my family, this job puts food on my family’s table and enables me to support them on a daily basis. My father had stroke back in 2017, who is also currently taking maintenance medications, while my mother is a housewife. I have two younger siblings which I am also financially supporting at the moment.

Last May 18, 2020, I was working for the first time coming from the extended community quarantine. On that day, the first meal I had was around 4 in the afternoon. I felt a strange stabbing pain around my abdomen which I did not pay much attention to, thinking I was just probably starving.

As I carried on to work the next day, May 19 (My 25th birthday), the pain in my stomach area persisted and seemed to have gotten worse despite eating on time and taking adequate rest. The pain continued for the next four days, getting worse by the day until I could no longer tolerate it, affecting my work. I tried to manage the discomfort with over-the-counter medicines hoping it would settle me down.

On the morning of May 24 around 6, I arrived at the ER to have proper medical attention as I am already in tears due to the extreme pain I was having. I waited for about 5 hours to have an ultrasound done and another 2 to have it reviewed by the doctors and they immediately scheduled me for an emergency Open Appendectomy because the ultrasound showed that my Appendix had ruptured.

As of writing, I have already raked in roughly 60,000php or 1200$ in medical charges without doctors professional fees and still counting as I am still currently admitted and hoping to recover soon. I am still in great pain whenever I try to move and still having low appetite.

At this point, I am unable to work and probably will be unable to for the next 2 weeks as per my doctor’s advice. To be honest, I am worried about my medical bill more than my physical condition because aside from my hospital expenses, I also have rent, food, and medications I need to take after this admission on top of my regular expenses every month.

I understand that everyone is struggling at this point due to the current world situation and I am humbly knocking on your kind hearts to spare me any amount that will go towards my medical bill.
