Introduction and reason for this “Go Get Funding Campaign”

This campaign is an attempt to raise enough funds to enable a young Cambodian man to have urgent surgery.

Injury and Medical History

During the mid 1990's this young man sustained a near fatal injury at the age of 7 years old. He sustained, what is called "An inguinal hernia".

Whilst playing with local kids in his village, another boy kneed him in the abdomen, pushing part of his intestine through the lower abdomen wall.

He was left to basically die, as the local villages were in the 1990’s poor and uneducated, however after 7 hours lying on the ground, with no help, he managed to crawl to his grandmothers home where he was sent to a very basic local hospital. Cambodian Doctors were not educated enough to repair the damage completely, however they managed to stabilize the injury in such a way he could live a somewhat normal existence.

The result is a painful hernia that causes major discomfort in his groin area, the extended protrouding intestine causes embarrassment and issues such as intestinal infections, pain and difficulty in evacuating his bowels. He has lived with this condition to the present day. As a young man it has caused PTSD. low self-esteem and is worsening.

This young man is extremely shy and very hesitant to expose his identity, (but would do so if requested} as a suffer of this debilitating injury.

He has little hope and quite often experiences periods of major depression, self hate and fear his life will only be short due to complications as he gets older.

He knows he is just one of millions of people needing help, however I'm taking my steps as an Australian Expat living in Cambodia to making this call for help. I cannot fund the entire surgery cost on my own, hence I have started this Go Get Funding campaign.

Objective

Due to the lack of international support from specialist doctors in Cambodia, this operation can not be performed with in the country. This man needs enough funding to allow him to travel and undergo surgery in perhaps Thailand or another neighboring country which can provide such specialist surgeons.

The estimated cost for surgery, hospital accommodation and aftercare is US$ 20,000.00 to US$ 25,000.00 depending on the surgeon and if any further complications arise.
