Meddy’s Fight Against Cervical Cancer

It was about 3 years ago when my mom was back and forth the hospital getting her kidneys checked, this is because of pain on her lowerback that never goes away. Ultrasound was ordered, and to our shock, we have been told that there is a tumor just beside her right ovary and was suggested to have it removed. And so we went to the city, and had it removed. They performed what they call TAHBSO (Total Abdominal Hysterectomy and Bilateral Salpingo-Oophorectomy) which means they have removed the uterus, cervix, both of ovaries and fallopian tubes. And after that took a sample of the tumor for biopsy. We thought and hoped everything was alright and she just needed to recover from Surgery, but luck was really not on our side, when the results of the bioppsy came out and the doctor advised that my moms Diagnosis was Stage 3 Ovarian cancer. And that she will be need to under go Chemotheraphy sessions.

My mom has already underwent the following procedures

• 6 Chemotheraphy sessions
• 25 sessions of radiation
• Another 4 sets of Chemotheraphy (where in the Doctor has asked to stop) as they will need to change the medicine as its not working for her- she will need to start again with another medicin

Radiation treatment was ordered as they have seen tumor on her cervical area and her diagnosis was changed to Cervical Cancer Stage 4 with the spread of cancer on her Liver too. Then that is when another set of Chemotheraphy sessions was recomended to control the spread of the cancer cells.

Now we watch her helplessly as she struggles with the side effects of the medications, and complications-difficulty breathing, nausea, severe headache, stomache ache, back ache, and there are times she cant even move as her whole body aches.

Her doctor stated that her treatment will be consisted of another 6 Chemotheraphy sessions. The medical bill comes up to about 60,000 PHP/ session (360,000 PHP for the whole six sessions). My parents, and my sisters have pooled in our remaining savings after the prevois treatments but could not collect more than 50,000PHP.

I am yet to fully digest the shocking diagnosis. I have decided to work form home, so that I can take care of her together with my dad after my work for the day is done.
