Hello all!
Firstly, thank you so much for showing interest in this campaign.I know these are very hard times for everyone around the world but I want to raise your attention to one guy, my friend, who I believe is having a harder time than most and could use our help.This campaign could make a real big difference to the life of a very dear friend of mine, Captain Shanne C. West (Westy) who is currently hospitalised in Bangkok. This fundraiser has been created to urgently raise the 30,000 USD needed to cover his medical bill and enable him to return home.
Westy was a career airline pilot and captained commercial airliners (B737 and A320) an C130 Hercules on humanitarian missions in Africa. His career ended in 2011 when he was shot in Kenya.The bullet entered his upper arm and severed his spine, causing instant paralysis below the waist.As such Westy has since been confined to a wheelchair.Despite this Westy is a strong character and has never given up.He has daily therapy and aspires to undergo revolutionary stem cell treatment in the near future which if successful will enable him to walk again.
His hopes of receiving this treatment as planned were dashed earlier this year when Westy discovered he had dislocated his hip.Because of the paralysis he did not realise he had suffered the dislocation until an infection set in.As soon as it was diagnosed in April 2020, Westy was rushed into hospital for emergency treatment to set the wound and remove the infection.The treatment has involved several complex surgeries and blood transfusions.The bill for the medical treatment is 30,000 USD and unfortunately Westy was unable to obtain insurance to cover the cost.If we can all chip in a little, it could go a long way to covering this hospital fee, get Westy home and ultimately get him back on his feet and, maybe one day, back in the air where he belongs.
