Mapúa Judo Club is considered to be the first Judo club established in the Philippines. Mapúa Judo Club has played a significant role in pioneering and introducing the Japanese martial art to the Philippines as well as wide-spreading the teaching and practices of Judo throughout the local population. Founded by Prof. Perfecto Mendiola Jr. along with his fellow teammates, they started the Mapúa Judo Club in Mapúa Institute of Technology (now presently known as Mapúa University) in the year 1950. MJC has now been around for 70 years, and up until this day, is still continuing the drive, will, and legacy that Prof. Mendiola Jr., and other founding members, left with his juniors and fellow teammates, and that is to teach the art and sport that is Judo to the filipino people. Although no longer as prominent as it once was, MJC is still present to this day, along with its members still continuing the legacy and upholding the rich history of influential players, seniors, and members that have left a significant impact within the local Judo scene.

As a sole organization within Mapúa University, Judo is still not a recognized sport within the NCAA, thus all players and the club alone is solely supported by the funds gathered by each member as well as the support of our beloved seniors. As of now, due to the many years of wear and tear as well as the loss of the main MJC Dojo in the year 2012, our tatami donated by the PJF (formerly known asa PAJA) have been slowly deteriorating and is slowly becoming unsafe for new members, current players, as well as seniors to be training on. With that being said, we have approached the PJF in regards to this, and sadly is not able to provide us with the standard rectangular tatami mats for free unless we are able to secure an area where the mats can be set and not often carried or moved out, in order to prevent quick wear and tear as with the last tatami provided. We have tried to obtain the approval to find a dedicated area within the campus for a dojo for more than 2 years now, but we have been continuously denied our request due to the campus being fully occupied and utilized by higher priority sports that are under varsity standards such as basketball, cheer leading, etc.

So today, we humbly and would kindly ask for the assistance of all our respected seniors, alumnus, members, and players around the world to help out with our beloved MJC at least one last time. As we are trying to raise a minimum of 150,000 pesos in order to purchase Roll style tatami mats that are better suited for the current situation and setup of our clubs training environment. This will benefit not only the current players, but also the future generations of MJC as we continue to grow and adapt with the situation of our training areas. As of now we have 33 active applicants and 27 active members who are in need of assistance in regards to this situation. The current situation of our tatami mats is slowly becoming more dire where it is not safe for players, current or past, in the long run and more years to come.

We thank you all who are willing to help, and rest assured that these funds will be put into good use in bettering our beloved MJC.

God Bless you all! MJC Faito!
