Mama Twiga Climbing Mnt Kilimanjaro - A quest of hope and courage!

Hi Everyone. I am Mama Twiga, also known as Elsabé in South Africa, my home country. Twiga is the Zwehili word for giraffe, and if you could see me in person, you will understand why this nickname was given to me.

I am currently living on the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, with the tip of this majestic mountain in my sight almost every day. Mount Kilimanjaro is the world's tallest free-standing mountain, at 5 895 m.

As I could not make it back home to South Africa, in time for the total lockdown, now imposed on South Africa and its borders, I decided to do something that will bring a bit of adventure, and hope, into many homes.

With all of this turmoil in the world and people across the globe now mostly confined to their homes, I decided to undertake a documented climb. You will be able to follow me on my quest to reach the top of this majestic mountain, with daily updates. We can encourage each other to keep the faith, to keep on going, to not give up, no matter how hard or difficult the situation might be, WE WILL NOT GIVE UP!!

I will most probably be the only non-Tanzanian climbing this mountain, as Tanzania has been greatly affected, like the rest of the world, with NO tourist visiting due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Most lodges and camps closed their doors for the time being. So, many people are without jobs, as is the case across the globe. I am currently conducting training in the hospitality industry, in various fields. This gives me the opportunity to visit extremely remote villages within Tanzania. There are many lodges and camps situated around these villages, but most of the inhabitants are not formally trained in this industry.

My aim is to raise funds with this project, with which I will set up a mobile education centre, going to some of these villages, identify people who can receive training and including them in my training programme FREE OF CHARGE. Afterwards their applications will be submitted to lodges in their area. These will be people without any form of formal training within the hospitality business. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER.

With almost all lodges now closed, the time will be perfect to reach out to these villages and conduct this training. Let us bring hope and positive energy. Let us continue to give tourists from across the globe the best service when visiting this beautiful country.

Your help and support will be greatly appreciated.
