Mama, Please Wake Up

“Things at home will finally be in order again,” I thought.

My four brothers and I were just going about our daily routine at home awaiting the return of my parents from Singapore last Tuesday (August 7, 2018) when we received an alarming message from my Papa (Santos “Santi” Conde Jr.).

My mom (Susana Conde) suffered through a brain stroke and was brought to the hospital immediately. She has been unresponsive since Tuesday afternoon. Papa, even though still in shock, made sure to do everything needed to save her. He brought her to Singapore General Hospital and was advised by the doctors to agree to get Mama a brain surgery. It wasn’t an easy decision as the surgery was, of course, also a massive risk. Not to mention, it was beyond what we could ever afford. But it was also the only way to save her. All of us at home, my brothers aged 30, 18 (twins), and 12, would have said yes immediately the same way our Papa did.

We were and still are ready to lose everything to get her back.

My mom underwent the 10-hour brain surgery but is still unresponsive. As per her doctor’s prognosis, she’s still in critical condition.

As helpless as my brothers and I really feel about the situation, we know it’s not even half of the pain our Papa is feeling right now. We can’t help but think what it’s like for him to be miles away from us…from home, worried sick about my mom’s condition, and troubled with how we’re going to pay for the hospital bills.

As of August 13 (Thursday), our hospital bill is already at P1,500,000.00. We will also keep on updating this everyday.

Our family, extended family from the church, and family friends have been doing all that we can to support my parents however we can.

And this is part of it – humbly asking YOU to help us wake MAMA up and help us bring her back home to us.
