I am Abby, 35, a government worker from Quezon City, Philippines. I am raising funds for the medical needs of one of my closest high school buddies, Juan Carlos (JC to most people). We went to the same public high school, and has maintained contact even after graduation. I am a witness to the challenges JC faced: from selling cakes in high school so he can have lunch money, to working as a fast food crew to support his college education, to being played ruthlessly by some of the guys he fell in love with (we'd laugh about this now but heaven knows the tears he had shed). I also know how much his family meant to him, and how he'd do everything to support his mom and siblings. The two things I admire most about JC are his determination and dedication to his work, and his love and care for his family and friends.

JC was rushed to a hospital in Cavite on early Sunday (29 March) morning due to abdominal pain. He was already delirious then. He was placed in ICU and was diagnosed to have elevated blood sugar levels, pneumonia, and increased creatinine. Since the entire island of Luzon was placed on enhanced community quarantine because of the Covid-19 crisis, he has been off work (he works as a retail store manager for a clothing brand). Since JC is the family breadwinner, they mainly depend on his HMO to cover the medical expenses. Barely four days in confinement and his hospital bill is already at $3, 200. The HMO can cover around $2, 600 of that amount. He has since been moved to a regular room, as his blood sugar levels have returned to normal (thankfully). His creatinine levels continue to increase, though, and he had undergone dialysis since his kidneys have acute failure. At this time, seeking government aid is kind of difficult, with the threat of the Covid crisis and the rest of the populace needing food relief, and mass transportation being suspended (the workers themselves cannot go to work). The rest of our high school classmates have reached out to their networks for donations. We hope to be able to raise enough to cover what JC's HMO can no longer accommodate and his immediate needs when he gets discharged. I appeal to your generous hearts for a little donation for our friend. You may send your donations to JC's Metrobank account (Acct Nbr: 233-3-233-70826-8. Thank you so much❤
